The 30-meter tall Mosque features a naturally ventilated main prayer hall for 2,075 people. Beneath the prayer hall, a social gathering area with a capacity of 1000 people will become an expansion area for prayer and special events. An exterior plaza for additional prayer capacity on Friday is located on the southeast corner of the site.

10 Halletts Point is a new high-rise, high-density, mixed-use development on the waterfront in Astoria, Queens. The city approved master plan calls for eight residential buildings, retail, a public waterfront esplanade and a site for a potential K-8 school. 10 Halletts comprises two towers oriented to maximize river views, with a large scale roof top amenity space for residents. In addition to the waterfront park, a large supermarket, new retail and plans for additional public transportation connections will significantly improve neighborhood infrastructure.

Light filters down through the young trees suspended above. Pin Oak, Linden, Ginkgo, Cherry - the variety of branches and leaves cast shadows on the courtyard walls and are reflected in the shallow water below the canopy.

Tree-Lined is imagined as an urban oasis that showcases the many species of trees that make up New York City’s ecosystem. trees are suspended by a cable system that is hung from the perimeter walls. the ground beneath the canopy is sculpted to provide pools of water and create a raised edge for seating.

After their installation in the PS1 courtyard, the trees will be planted in the neighborhood. They will keep the area cool in future summers, help mitigate storm water run-off and will add to the biodiversity of the city.

Located within the Cypress Hills neighborhood of Brooklyn, this 274,00 square foot mixed-use development includes new construction and the adaptive re-use of the early 1900s landmarked Empire State Dairy complex – a former milk production and distribution facility. The new 14-story building will create 320 units of housing including 77 inclusionary units with ground floor space for commercial and community facility uses and community facility space on the upper two floors of the landmarked building.

Part of the rezoning along Atlantic Ave in East New York, the preservation of the Empire State Dairy Building will be an important bridge between the industrial past of the neighborhood and the future development. 2840 Atlantic is designed to preserve the exterior façade of the landmarked building while maximizing affordable housing units and retail space.

The adaptive re-use of the Empire State Dairy buildings saves embodied energy and reduces landfill waste.

The bridge is a “hollow rope.” This structural technique, pioneered by Robert Le Ricolais and Peter McCleary, uses tension and weaving to provide strength with minimum material. The woven wires are put in tension and create stiffness while the diaphragms take compression. Since the banks of the river are weak, the anchorages allow the horizontal forces to be transferred vertically to more solid ground.

Logan Street Apartments is a 66 unit affordable and supportive housing development in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Located on the banks of the Schuylkill River, the site links Fairmount Park to the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood and forms the social and recreational basis for re-fit. By carving out an existing warehouse, we have increased daylight and ventilation and created winter gardens that link vertical neighborhoods to the Schuylkill River Park.

The new library for Kuwait University is organized around a central atrium. A sunscreen with Kufic inspired patterns shades the building and creates a micro-climate along the perimeter.

This project uses a site that is now a parking lot adjacent to Miami’s public transportation hub. The parking has been consolidated by stacking it to create a park and outdoor performance space. Slopes above parking ramps increase pedestrian access to the elevated train and become public spaces with greater breeze from nearby Biscayne Bay.

This project is student housing that is both net zero carbon and net zero energy. The proposal is a new home for UPenn’s Environmental Club that includes dorm rooms and an area for public events. An inflatable skin responds to environmental conditions and creates a spectacle along the street.

The theme of the competition was “The Residence- From Our Having Lived the Movie Century.” How can film influence architecture? In this house, the room layout along the central spine allows for a sequential blending of experiences. Moments flow seamlessly into a narrative for the home. Glass louvers are rotated at specific points to capture views and frame reality. It is at the threshold of the house and public realm that one can experience the nuanced division of movement into moment.

Live on a farm. . . downtown. Solar analysis determined where vertical farming could mitigate heat gain in a Philadelphia office building. The areas on the building facade with the greatest sun exposure were replaced with housing units and gardens. The units are attached to the existing building structure and grey water from the new plumbing irrigates the crops. Why not stop commuting and start growing?
